Brief Project Description

The objectives of this project were to:

  • restore and redevelop an underused dilapidated churchyard in a densely built-up area of run down housing estates and transform it into a community owned and used garden for local recreation and leisure
  • to use the lansdscaping and maintenance works as an opportunity for local unemployed people to develop skills, build confidence and gain work experience
  • the garden will enhance the capacity of organisations already working in the church building, including an employment scheme, a community cafe, a programme for yoing children and their carers and the next-door school. Unemployed clients will be involved in the soft lanscaping, cafe customers will be able to sit outside in warmer weather and children will use the garden for recreation.
